Letter from the Board

We’re at a crossroads.

The global food system is facing unprecedented challenges—and the choices we make today will shape the future of food security for generations to come. From corporate monopolies tightening their grip on our food supply to the rising costs and declining nutritional value of mass-produced goods, our health, independence, and local economy are at stake.

Here’s the hard truth: if we don’t act now, we risk losing more than just the flavor of a fresh tomato or the satisfaction of a clean home-cooked meal. We risk losing control over one of the most basic human rights: access to healthy, sustainable, and affordable food.

But there is hope—and that hope starts with us.  While we may not be able to control what happens outside of our region we CAN be the change within our own community.  That comes with responsibility to create an ecosystem that is sustainable beyond just another grocery store.

The new vision created by the board past and present represents an opportunity to seize control of our own destiny. It’s a movement. This movement first and foremost will be centered around our farmers and homesteaders to ensure they have the proper infrastructure to compete locally.  Every local farmer we support, every dollar we spend on sustainable goods, and every neighbor we educate brings us one step closer to a resilient and self-sufficient food ecosystem. Together, we can:

  • Empower local farmers and homesteaders to feed our communities sustainably.

  • Break free from the choke hold of industrial agriculture and corporate greed.

  • Build a future where our children can enjoy clean, nutritious food grown right here at home.

  • Create jobs and sustainable industry for our future

But we need you.

Your expertise, ideas, and passion are what make this co-op strong. Maybe you’re a gardener, a teacher, a chef, or a storyteller. Maybe you’re just someone who believes in the power of community. Whatever your skills, there’s a place for you in this movement.

We are also calling on all business leaders in the region to join us in making this vision a reality.  We need buy-in and support to help change the residue of the past.  It's about moving forward.

Here’s how you can help today:

  1. Volunteer Your Skills

  2. Business Owners & Community Leaders:  We want to hear from you as to how we can collaborate to avoid redundancy and maximize efficiencies

  3. Spread the Word: The Coop is looking forward, not dwelling on its past. We have 100% revamped our vision and focus to be the frontline of local sustainable food in the Great River region. Let your neighbors know we are here to stay.

  4. Invest in the Co-op: Become a member, donate..  Your time, money, or expertise.

The future of food is uncertain—but together, we can secure it. We have the power to create a system that prioritizes people over profits, health over convenience, and community over corporations.

Are you with us?
